Described Video (DV)

Described Video (DV), also known as “Audio Description (AD)”, is a service where key visual elements are described during natural pauses in dialogue for people who are blind or have low vision.

Our team of describers are trained in DV best practices. After careful research, a script is written with the audience and the producer in mind. Rich descriptions are thoughtfully crafted to paint clear, concise and accurate pictures designed to enhance the audience’s experience. We also offer a selection of voices for Post Production DV to suit our client’s needs.

A narrator, a woman with shoulder length blonde hair, wears black headphones and a yellow top as she narrates a described video script for Lakeshore Media Services. The narrator stands in a recording booth and speaks into a microphone.

Human Voice

We work with experienced voice talent, offering both male and female voices in multiple languages. The right narrator is carefully chosen to suit individual projects.

Closed Captioning (CC)

Closed Captioning (CC) is text based description of any significant sounds. It provides accurate transcription of spoken dialogue along with identification of the speaker. It also includes descriptions of music, sound effects and non-verbal communication such as sighs or hums. It is designed to flow naturally alongside an audio track and other visual elements on-screen.

CC was originally developed to make media accessible for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, but today, CC is used for a variety of broadcast and digital content. For example, CC can be used when audio is prohibited, or an environment is too noisy, or as a way for content creators to optimize their digital content. At LMS, we offer offline closed captioning for any of these scenarios, using pop-on and roll-up formats in English or French.
